The Origin Story
Setting up in a bar cellar
Alex, Ben, and Josh are bartenders. They first ventured into the world of spirits in 2015, when they created a tiny distillery in the basement of their Aberdeen cocktail bar and produced a line of gins that took off with resounding success. Buoyed by this triumph, they turned their attention to their next idea: coming up with the perfect whisky for highball drinks.
Made for cocktails
As barmen, their main prerogative was to produce a whisky that could be used as a cocktail base – a blended Scotch that could hold its own, no matter what it was mixed with. Every time Alex tasted it during the creation process, he mixed it with soda first. The fact that it’s actually a fantastic stand-alone whisky is almost accidental; this was conceptualised by and for cocktail makers.
Bringing whisky down to earth
Alex is very much against all forms of alcohol snobbery. When coming up with Glasshouse, the team was in agreement that this should be an accessible product that doesn’t feel “untouchable”. While expensive single malts can sit on the shelf gathering dust for years as they wait for a special occasion, Glasshouse is made to be consumed. Whisky should be all about enjoyment, and Glasshouse removes any hint of pomposity or pretension from the equation. This is a whisky built for unabashed pleasure.
The secret sauce
Exotic fruit – in Scotland
Made for enjoyment
The final product emerged exactly as intended: a blended Scotch that serves as the perfect base for a whisky and soda, with the added bonus of being a gloriously approachable neat sipper. Glasshouse democratises the highball, making the whisky-drinking experience more accessible to the average consumer. While discovering all the nuanced complexities of an ancient single malt is an interesting hobby, Glasshouse sets out to prove that whisky can also just be all about the fun and pleasure of the experience itself.
