Rebel City Distillery is located in Cork city in the south-west of Ireland. Cork is known as the “Rebel City” for its storied history of rebellions over multiple centuries. Known for its beautiful harbour, foodie culture, and friendly people, there is a reason Corkonians often call it “the true capital of Ireland.” The distillery itself is located in Cork’s old Henry Ford & Sons factory – the first one that was ever built outside of America!

Honouring Revolutionary Women

Maharani Gin symbolizes revolutionary Kerala rebel spirits and figures of female empowerment. All the distillery’s botanicals are sourced from a women’s organic farming co-operative in Kerala. The Gin’s brand name, Maharani or ‘high queen,’ comes from this region. It pays tribute to Kerala women who are known for their strength and importance in society.

Rebel City Distillery is the story of two creative cultures coming together to create something special. Founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife Robert and Bhagya Barrett alongside Robert’s father Brendan, they aimed to create a new style of gin – a balanced mix of spice, citrus and sweetness. Their flagship product, Maharani Gin, celebrates a fusion of cultures from Cork, Ireland and Kerala, India, where Robert and Bhagya come from respectively.
