The West Indies has been producing sugarcane for hundreds of years. Made up of over 7,000 islands and territories stretching from the Florida peninsula of North America down to the northern coast of Venezuela, it is as beautiful as it is diverse. From active volcanoes to limestone islands to palm-fringed white beaches, each land is unique and different, imbued with its own distinct character and charm.

A rum born in the Caribbean

The T.D.L. distillery, or Trinidad Distillers Limited, is located on the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad. For centuries, Trinidad’s tropical, humid climate has proved itself ideal to the task of producing sugarcane. Trinidad T.D.L. 13 Ans is distilled entirely from these homegrown sugarcanes, before being aged for 13 years in bourbon casks. This ageing process mellows and purifies the rum, as well as enhancing the flavours and complexity of the final product.

A pure delight

After the ageing process, Trinidad T.D.L. 13 Ans is imported to France by Compagnie des Indes for quality testing, filtering, and bottling. Wanting to retain all of its glorious Trinidadian character, Compagnie des Indes leaves the rum as it is, with no additives whatsoever. This allows the rum to express all the varied notes of its complex and lively personality.

Compagnie des Indes was created by Florent Beuchet, a wine expert hailing from Burgundy, France. Realising that the world of rums was every bit as diverse and varied as the world of wines, he set out on a journey of education. By offering a selection of unique single-cask rums along with carefully created blends, he hopes to introduce people to the rich universe of craft rums, and discover new terroirs along the way.
